Result of National Supervision Sampling Inspection for Quality of White Latex Product

White latex is a kind of supplementary material widely used in decoration industry. White latex is popular to people for its good performances of binding, safety and environmental protection, saving resources and such. It has been used widely and becoming one of key latex glue which developing in our country.
To make further improvement on product quality, to promote the healthy development of the industry, General Administration of Product Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine made a national supervision sampling inspection for the quality of white latex product; 51 products from 51 enterprises of 9 provinces and municipalities directly under the Central Government were inspected, 43 passed, qualified rate of product sample is 84.3%. (The 9 provinces and municipalities directly under the Central Government are Beijing, Tianjing, Hebei, Liaoning, Shanxi, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Guangdong.)
This sampling inspection was done for free formaldehyde, benzene, methylbenzene + dimethylbenzene, total volatilized organic compound and such items of white latex product in accordance with national compulsory standard GB 18583-2001 “Harmful Substance Limit of glue of Interior Decoration materials”; and for inspection of PH value, viscosity and such items according to the standard HG/T 2727-1995 “Acetic Acid Polyethylene Latex Wood Glue”. The result of sampling indicates that 17 large/middle enterprises all passed this inspection, and the product quality is above the standard. But there were some enterprises which were found poor qualified, either.
The main quality problems found in this inspection are as following:
First, the free formaldehyde over standard. Formaldehyde is a toxic substance with intensive excitant smell; it is harmful to human health. Most formaldehyde of white latex product was left in free formaldehyde of incomplete chemical reaction during the synthetic process; or formaldehyde is added to glue as catalyst, antiseptic and glue-mix agent, and that may make the free formaldehyde is higher than the standard. There were 7 products which free formaldehyde is higher than the standard; the free formaldehyde content of these products are all between 1.1g/kg～1.5g/kg, which is higher than 1.0g/kg standardized in national compulsory standard.
Secondly, some products failed in PH value and viscosity. PH value and viscosity are the important index for product viscosity performance, it will make wood corrosion if PH value is high than the standard, and it will directly affect the initial viscosity of product if viscosity is not up to the standard. These two indexes will reduce the viscosity of product to a certain extent.
For the problems reflected in this inspection, AQSIQ will ask related quality technology supervision departments to strictly deal with the unqualified enterprises in this inspection for product quality in accordance with the laws and regulations, and ask them to correct and reform within a definite time. Meanwhile, AQSIQ has published a name list of products and manufacturers who were well-qualified in this inspection for the consumer to choose. AQSIQ will continue to follow up the inspection of this kind of products to promote the total quality improvement of white latex product industry, and make a trustable and satisfied consumer environment for the customer.
